Copper wire is the most commonly used wire for all electrical operations. The fact that copper is the best conductor of electricity makes copper wire a number one choice among the electricians. Among the widely used varieties of copper wire are tinsel wires and tinned copper wires.
Tinsel wires are those electrical wires which are used when maximum mechanical flexibility is required. It is generally found in cords used for telephone. Because of its extreme flexibility, it is highly resistant to a failure of any kind.
Tinsel wires are made by wrapping several strands of thin copper foil around a textile core. This extreme thinness of the foil ensures they are less likely to suffer from metal fatigue.
Tinned copper wire is used as an overhead power source for subways, mine trains, light and heavy transit systems, and industrial cranes. The use of tinned copper wire is an improvement-driven shift from the use of bare copper wire in earlier times.
While the previously popular bare copper wire was prone to oxidation, tinned copper wire, with its tin coating, remains immune to oxidation and water corrosion. Thus, this type of wire lasts ten times more than any other kind of wire. Further, its water resistance quality ensures that it can be utilized extensively in boating as well as various marine projects.
