A Detailed Overview of Enameled Copper Wire and its Applications

Enameled copper wire has turned out to be the most versatile conductor lately. It is more popularly known as a magnetic wire or winding wire. It is insulated to be used in electromagnetic equipment like motors and transformers. Its specifications make it most suited for coil winding applications.

We all know the copper’s high conductivity and its other properties that allow us to wind it closely for electromagnetic coils. As they are annealed up to the maximum level, the chances of brittle breaking are minimum. Once it is coated with an insulating material like layers of polymer films, the wire loses contact with its current and of the surrounding wires. This reduces the possibility of short circuits which further improves the longevity and efficiency of the same wire.

How to recognize an enameled copper wire?

An enameled copper wire or magnet wire is usually brown which a darker shade than the regular copper wire is. Its resemblance is not that difficult as you can find the varnish removed from the ends. It is unlike regular copper wires which are not insulated and thus thicker. This is also because they are not scraped at the ends. Such differences are easily distinguishable to bare eyes. But the best method to be sure whether the wire is an enameled copper wire or not is by placing the wire across the terminals of the one-celled battery. Press the wire on its ends to make constant contact between the terminals of the cell and the end sides of the wire. If it is an enameled copper wire, then it will not get warm on the ends, else it will. No heat on the ends means there is no piece of insulation.

How to use an enameled copper wire?

Using an enameled copper wire is as easy as using a regular copper wire. You just need to remove the enamel coating from the point wherein you need to make the electrical connection. This can be easily done by scraping the ends of the wire with the help of a knife or even a razor blade. If you are afraid of using such tools, then there is an alternate way to it. Just rub a rag that has been dipped in acetone for a long and then rub it at the point where the insulation has to be removed.

What are the applications of an enameled copper wire?

When it comes to the applications of enameled copper wire, the sky is the limit. It is most commonly used to convert electrical energy to various other forms of energy. Like a motor in which electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy. This energy helps in the mechanical motions of the motor fans. A Magnet wire helps in reducing the loss of energy through overheating of the elements in electromagnetic equipment.

Enameled copper wires work like magic in transformers. They transfer electricity from one circuit to another while absorbing all the additional stress created through the vibrations and centrifugal forces.

Generators work at such high temperatures and are in constant need of exceptional electrical conductivity. An enameled copper wire fits best under all these requirements. Hence, none of the other copper wires are as good as enameled copper wire for the generators.

Apart from energy transformation, enameled copper wires find their application in communication instruments too. We at Rajasthan Electric Industries take pride in the quality of our enameled copper wires. Our magnet wires go through extensive testing and are then sold in the market at competitive pricing. So if you are searching for the best quality enameled copper wire in India, then your search ends here.
