Copper Foils: Its Characteristics, Features and Usage

Copper foils are one of the most underutilized and underrated forms of the copper element. Where copper wires are extensively used all around, copper foils are not utilized up to their potential.

Their usage can be extremely diverse using its unique set of characteristics and features. Copper foils can also be used as an electrical conductor, commonly found in circuit boards, energy appliances, etc. Not only in the electrical industry but copper foils can also be utilized by many industries and businesses.

Although copper foils are replaced with aluminum foils in our homes, there are applications wherein copper foils are irreplaceable. It is a very malleable metal and comes in a very thin piece of copper. The process of making copper foils involve rolling copper cakes with a piece of metal.

Unique characteristics of copper foil

The most unique characteristic of copper foil is that it holds low surface oxygen. This characteristic helps it in getting attached to multiple substrates like metals, insulating materials, and high-temperature applications.

The copper foil is quite conducive and that’s why used in electromagnetic shielding. The conductive characteristic of copper foils has made it applicable for anti-static high-temperature tape. When attached to a substrate, the electromagnetic properties of copper get even better.

Copper foils come in many forms like double-guided, self-adhesive, single-guided, etc. But all these forms of copper foils have these characteristics in common-

1.) Copper foil is known to have great static dissipation

2.) As copper foils are not easy to fold, hence it's very difficult to tear them at the same time.

3.) Copper foils are known to possess good resistance to heat.

4.) Due to good heat resistance, copper foils are very stable.

5.) Copper foils are considered to be one of the best when it comes to electromagnetic shielding

6.) The copper foil-based tape comprises properties of EMI protection material.

Uses and applications of copper foils

Copper foils are a rare element that finds their usage in many industrial and household products. Apart from all other utilities, copper foils play a great role in the process of joining glass pieces. We are going to explore more such usage and applications of copper foil-

The first and foremost usage of copper foils in the field of stained-glass art. This is when the colored or stained-glass pieces are cut and joined together. The glass pieces are laid out to form an intricate design and then are glued together. The copper foils are placed between pieces of glass. The bond created through this process lasts for years. Copper foils are best at joining glass pieces as they are lightweight and seal the pieces involving minimum effort.

Copper foils are also used in repairing and in creating new windows. The pieces of windows that are broken or damaged are joined again together with the help of copper foils strips by placing in between the cracks. Such a bond created is indestructible.

Copper foils can also be utilized in storing and preserving household products. They protect chemicals from getting ruined at our homes.

Other common applications of copper foils are- lead frames, connectors, rivets, screens, etc.

Copper in itself is a very versatile metal and copper foils increase the utility of the copper metal. Copper foils from Rajasthan Electric Industries are malleable and ductile. Apart from its core characteristics, we offer top-notch quality copper foils. So, if you are looking for a lightweight and indestructible copper foils, then we at Rajasthan Electric Industries have got it all covered for you.
