What makes Nickel copper alloy an exceptional wire?

Copper in itself is one of the noblest metals and when combined with Nickel brings even more exceptional properties. Copper-Nickel alloy is an alloy of copper that has Nickel along with other strengthening elements.

This is just an introduction, but there is so much more to this one-off its kind alloy. So, let’s dig deeper into more about Copper-Nickel alloy

What is Copper Nickel alloy?

Copper-Nickel alloy is a remarkable alloy that is a medium to low resistance alloy. They are produced through conventional metallurgical methods. Due to this, they are well-known for their good corrosion resistance. The copper content in Copper Nickel alloy is much higher but then also it is silver in color.

The maximum operating temperatures of Nickel copper alloy go up to 400 degrees I.e., 750-degree Fahrenheit. As the temperature coefficient of electrical resistance is low, Nickel copper alloy is a consistent performer.

Copper-Nickel alloy takes pride in good ductility and excellent corrosion resistance. Apart from this, Nickel copper alloys are popular as they can be easily soldered and welded.

Applications of Copper Nickel alloy

-      The 90-10 and 70-30 Cu-Ni alloy is used for seawater cooling and firewall systems. They are also used in heat exchangers, condensers, leg sheathing, oil coolers, etc.

-    The Copper-Nickel alloy wires when cut into long wires with sizes ranging from 0.13 mm to 2 mm diameter attain strict tolerance and alpha values. They are then used in gas detection and thermometry tolerances.

-      The Cu-30Ni-Cr alloy is used in forgings, cast seawater pumps, and valve components.

-    The Cu-Ni-Al alloy is the high-strength version of the Copper-Nickel alloy. They are used in shafts, bearing bushes, bolts, valve trims, gears, etc.

-   Copper-Nickel alloy is also used in desalination plants. The tubes and PipeWorks installed in the desalination plants are 90/10 Copper-Nickel. The plates and tubes are also made of the same alloy.

Copper Nickel alloy wire in heaters

Copper-Nickel alloy is very commonly used in our electrical resistance heaters. As the heating cable of Copper Nickel alloy is less prone to failure. This failure generally used to occur due to overheating. But Copper-Nickel alloy has a low-temperature coefficient of resistance and thus remains unaffected.

The heaters based on Copper wires are also suitable for heating long intervals. The heating capability is for continuous 20-30 meters to the temperature range of 500-1000 degrees.

As Copper-Nickel alloy cables are excellent at malleability, thus can be utilized to heat subterranean intervals of earth. They are known to work with full efficiency at high voltages like 400-1000 Volts.

Copper-Nickel alloy heater coils are also known to last longer as the resistance in the hot segments is almost the same as the rest of the coil. Due to the elimination of the hot spots, the chances of premature failure are almost negligible.

So now you might have realized the exceptional properties of Copper Nickel alloy. It's not just an electrical marvel but an alloy that has so many other applications as well.

You can get the best quality Copper-Nickel alloy cables at Rajasthan Electrics. We have more than a decade-long experience in the field of cables and wires. Hence, there will be a drawback in the quality of our product.
