Why Do In Copper Wire Manufacturers Insist On Using Tin In Alloying Copper?

Tinned copper wire can be understood as a copper wire coated with a thin layer of tin. This layer is formed on tin by electroplating.

Electrolytic Process

Electrolytic process is a method in which the copper wires pass through a chemical tank. Then the electric current is used on the tin slab for the tin coating on the copper wire. This is done evenly on the material as per the requirement.

Hot Dip Process

In the hot dip process, the slab of tin is melted in an electric pot and the material is passed through tin. This results in the coating of tin over the wire.

Reasons for using tin:

Tinning was initially developed in order to protect the insulated copper wires from corrosive chemicals. These chemicals include primarily sulphur, which is released by wire insulating materials. While these are no longer used in wire insulation these materials are sometimes used in producing cables for some high-environment stress industries, paper milling and waste water treatment.

Tinning makes soldering of the copper wire easier since it readily bonds to the solder, which is mostly made of tin? Tin copper wire manufacturers also say that it suffers from less corrosion the unpinned copper.
