Extensive Use of Copper in Form of Copper Wires

Copper is the naturally occurring element used extensively in the form of wires for electrical conductivity for home and industrial purposes. Its high ductility and melting point causes it an ideal choice to draw thin wires of copper which can be thinner than a human hair and can conduct electricity better than any other metal except the silver. However copper when extracted from the earth’s surface consist of a number of impurities which are then removed through electrolysis. Cadmium free copper is believed to be pure copper which is used mainly for the electrolytic purpose for making cathode or anode.

Tinned copper wire is used in overhead power sources such as those in the light and heavy transit systems and is also used in marine and other boating projects. Coating the copper wire with tin increases its strength and durability. Tinned copper wire is produced either by electroplating or hot dip process. In the former process the wire is gone through a chemical tray and with the help of rectifier and electric current to DC current is passed which results in electroplating. This process of electroplating is used for House Wiring, Control Panel Cable and other electric and electronical Wire as well as Cable too. Tinned copper wire lasts ten times longer than the non-tinned wire and this sort of insulation makes the wire highly water resistant.

Copper wire which are grouped into three classes as plain copper wire , tin coated copper wire and braided copper wire finds extensive use in many different applications such as in telecommunication, electric supply, automobile industry, jewelry and deep water fishing. They are also used in the PVC insulated cables which help in the underground transport system, electricity networks, etc. Only silver is better conducting than the copper but as silver is highly precious and can not be used as extensively as the copper hence copper forms an ideal choice for electrical conductivity purposes.
