Steps Involved in the Manufacturing of Copper Wire

A series of steps have to be followed for the manufacturing process of special copper cables. The quality has to be maintained by the manufacturers during the process. Copper wires are largely being used in both residential and commercial places. Copper has to pass through different phases before it becomes a full-fledged electrical wire.

Primarily, the metal is converted into copper rods and then it is transformed into wires. The first and foremost step is mining of the metal. It is then crushed into ores. Then the crushed ore is grinned in which, the crushed copper has to go through the huge machines for changing the metal in to powder. The machine moves in cylindrical manner and the leftover is discarded from the machine. Then the metal is transformed into pure copper cathode through processes like leaching, electrolytic refining and smelting.

In the leaching process, a weak copper sulfate solution is made, which is also used in the electrolytic process. This whole process is termed as elector winning. The process of casting involves changing the oxidation form and obtaining 99% pure copper. Then it is followed by the electrolytic refining for making cathodes which later is changed into wire rods. The complete process is repeated again and again to make a huge quantity of copper wires.

The final step is of electroplating which is different for various types of wire i.e. tinned copper wire, coated copper wire or braided copper rope. The metal then goes under the process of hardening and then you have a ready to use copper wire.
