Common Uses of Copper Wires

From common households to the telecommunication and automobile sector, copper wires find extensive usage across the industry. Classified as a transition metal, copper is a reddish-brown element with atomic number 29 and symbol Cu. The metal exhibits a wide range of properties that make it the preferred choice for making electrical wires. As a matter of fact, it has been estimated that almost 60% of mined copper is used for manufacturing wires.

Copper is highly ductile which means it can be easily drawn into thin wires without breaking or losing strength. It also has high thermal and electrical conductivity, along with remarkable corrosion resistance. For this reason, copper is preferred over a lot of other conductive materials in electrical settings.

In this brief post, we will dwell upon major uses of copper wires across different verticals.

So, let’s dive in.

Electricity Supply

Copper wires are extensively used for supplying electricity to households. The metal has several properties that make it ideal for electrical connections. Electrical copper wires are highly ductile; they can be easily bent with no loss of strength. Plus, copper is an immensely cost-effective option in comparison to metals such as silver or gold.

Telecommunication

Before optic fibers came into being, bunched copper wires were widely used in the telecommunication industry for making telephone wires. Even today, there are places where copper wire is the preferred material. Twisted copper wires find use in ADSL and HDSL wiring for LAN cables. In addition, interface devices such as modems and routers are dependent on copper.

Automobile Industry

With ever-increasing usage of electronic components in automobiles (e.g. anti-lock braking systems, heated seats and onboard navigation systems), the demand for copper in this segment has surged. In fact, the demand of copper in the industry is increasing by 5% each year. The increased penetration of hybrid and electric vehicles will only bring up the demand.

In a car, copper wires are used in glass defrost systems, windows, and mirror controls. They also find application in overhead contact wires for trams and trolleys. In an airplane, approx. 2% of the weight can be attributed to copper wires alone. As copper wires have a high melting point, they can be used in places where temperature fluctuations are common.

Steps of Manufacturing Copper Wires

Copper wires are extensively used for various applications in different industries. For this, manufacturer has to ensure that he delivers nothing but the best. Therefore, series of steps are involved in the process of manufacturing special cables of copper such as winding wire or submersible cable. With the manufacturing process, firms have to follow certain quality standards. The entire process of manufacturing copper wire special cables such as braided copper rope includes series of steps. Following are the steps of manufacturing of copper wires or cables:

•    First of all, metal is crushed and passes through large machines for converting metal into powder. During the process, the waste slag is removed from the metal.

•    Then, the metal is worked upon and gets converted into pure copper cathode by several steps like leaching, electro winning, smelting and electrolytic refining. After all these, metal is finally casted into wire rods.

•    The copper rods get pulled from the drawing die with narrower ends. This process forces the copper rod's to shrink in diameter and be of longer length.

•    After application of pressure it is time for one of the most important part of copper wire manufacturing namely annealing process. Under this, heat is applied to the finally formed wires. The process is meant for bringing required flexibility to the wire.

•    The next step is electroplating, which is optional for forming different types of special cables namely tinned, braided or stranded copper rope or metal coated wires. The metal is re-crystallized in the process of annealing and is then ready to use for various purposes.

All leading manufacturers of copper wire products follow above mentioned steps of manufacturing process, thereby, ensure superior quality of their products. Come to us and explore our exclusive range of copper cables, stranded copper wires and so much more. For more information Visit US...

Significance of Different Wires in Different Places

Copper is usually used as a metal, and as a metal it is supposed to be used for manufacturing electrical wires and other electronic gadgets or electrical equipment. The main application of copper is certainly, the production of electrical wires, as copper is well-known to be an excellent conductor of electrical energy. It is a kind of a metal comprising of many combinations. Copper doesn’t mostly stay deprived of impurities  and usually its purity levels differ, but then there is a type called the ‘cadmium free copper’, or the ‘Electrolyte Copper’ which is believed to be the cent percent pure copper

Bare copper wire has a composite shape and is prepared into cables which are later used for overhead electricity system for hefty as well as light transport systems, such as electrically operated mine trains, buses, subways, the industrial cranes, and so on. The manufacturers have to take it through some procedures that are few of the steps in their manufacturing process. They also have to transform the raw copper rod that has been extracted from its ore.

Tinsel Copper Wire is made by going through a procedure which involves Silver Plated Copper, Cadmium Copper, Electrolyte Copper and in this procedure the Copper Wire is compressed and is layered from various kinds of threads like Silver Thread, Cotton Thread, Kevlar Thread, Nylon Thread, Nomex Thread, and many more, as per the conditions which hinges on the client's instruction but generally the flexibility required for this is pretty high. A sequence of other procedures follow which are Twisting, Braiding and last but not the least Stranding, in order to get the end product which is the Tinsel Wire. It has some great uses like manufacturing of speakers of all types, Tweeter coils and Telecom Cables.

In the end, would conclude by saying that, all these types of copper wires are used in the electrical equipment, and none of these have been found worthless to spend on. For more information Visit Us...
