Different types of Copper Wire Used in Electrical Industry

Copper is a very valuable chemical component that is malleable and have very good conductor of heat and electrical. Undoubtedly, copper is a metal that is applicable across varied industries for instance in construction industry as a constructing material, in metallurgy as integral metal alloy, as a manufacturing raw material, and most significantly in the electrical industry for fabrication of electrical wires. In reality, copper is regarded as an ideal metal for fabrication of wires because of numerous benefits that it offers.

Nowadays, there are different types of copper wires that are majorly used in the electrical industry. Let’s have a quick glance at different types of copper wire available in the market:

Tin Coated Copper Wire: The fabrication process of tin coated copper wire involves three phases. In the first phase, particular size of wire is drawn by using Electrolyte (C.C. Rod). In the second phase, galvanizing process is done, and ultimately tin platting is done. Tin coated copper wires are predominantly used in industrial equipment like heaters, high temperature instruments, etc.

Tinsel Copper Wire: This wire is manufactured by covering numerous strands of thin copper foil around a textile core. It is used largely used in areas wherein highest mechanical flexibility is needed. The application of this wire is mostly found in telephone cords, specifically the handset cords. Apart from this, it is also been used in audio devices, such as speakers, loudspeakers, and tweeters.

Braided Copper Wire: Braided copper wire is made by braiding numerous wires. It is mainly used as a bendable connector for electrical appliances, stoves, and storage batteries. These wires can be intended according to specific requirements of the users.

Flat Copper Wire: This type of wire is widely known for excellent thermal stability and used for making the commutator of DC motors and in motor amplifiers. The coated flat copper wire is typically used in the windings of various industrial apparatuses, convertors, and refrigerant resisting electric equipment.
