Is A Control Cable Different From A Power Cable?

A power cable and a control cable are basically quite similar to each other. They are used in electric utility in both residential as well as commercial buildings. They are available in different voltages to offer convenience to the customer. Both are used to offer protection against electrical hazards.

Power cable

Made of aluminium and copper, a power cable is mainly used for transfer of power, specifically current, over a definite length. It is used for the transmission of electricity. It is used widely in industrial applications, and so this is a popular choice in commercial centers, hospitals, underground places, industrial areas, and others. While being installed, it can be exposed or buried inside within the ground. It is easy to buy from the market, both as single or multi-wire. However, people must ensure which type of power cable is suitable for their needs so that they are spared the task of exchanging it later.

Control cable

Control cable, on the other hand, is much more flexible than a power cable and is mostly paired. It is used for measuring or controlling in the arena of process automation. This a more exclusive type of cable. It is mainly used in the building, railway, and construction industries. It acts like a reliable conveyor. It is an interconnecting cable that is mostly installed in the middle of something. There are three main types of control cables. These are YY, CY, and SY cables. In this, the SY cable can be used on its own, while CY and YY are used in tandem for many applications. This cable has a transparent sheath to make it easy for the consumer to detect any possible damage without facing any type of issue.

The main difference between these two is that where power cable is a conductor of aluminium and copper, a control cable is a plain annealed conductor.
